This year’s draft is coming up.

What strategy do you need to draft the best Fantasy Football team possible in 2024?

Like Sonny Weaver Jr, do yourself a favor and write on a piece of paper “Draft a good team” and put that paper in your pocket.

Then you want to think about your league. Are you PPR? How many flex spots do you have? How many teams? These differences between leagues impact massively how draft strategy is considered.

Next, look at an ADP (average draft pick) list. This gives a basic overview of when each player is being drafted compared to each player. For example, Christian McCaffrey has the highest ADP, therefore most often he is being picked round 1 pick 1.

This is helpful for two reasons. First, it gives a good list for what order you can consider drafting players. Second, it can help outline when you can grab value during the draft. For example, if a player who has an average ADP in the 3rd round is available in the 4th round, that’s good value.

Next, look at last year’s overall scores when compared to individuals and positions for your league. Do QBs score the most by far? How do WRs compare to RBs? This should impact your picks on some level – why pick an RB2 before a QB 1 if your QB will outscore your RB by 150 points over the season?

Next, look at major dead zones for each position. Is there a major drop-off in output at TE after the top 3? How important is getting a top 5 QB?

Next, consider your strategy for last-thought positions like K or DEF. Do you want to stream defenses, picking a different one each week? How important is getting a good kicker?

Then, during the draft, plan to pay attention to the picks from others in the league. Are QBs going fast? Do you need to reach for that WR 2 because they’ve been over-drafted by round 4? Do you have Green Bay Packer fans who will draft their entire roster by round 4?

Finally, take that piece of paper out of your pocket and forget everything else.

Draft a good team.
